Taking the nurses’ views into account in the development of information systems has been recognised as important, and it has been one of Fastroi’s principles ever since the founding of the company.
The objective of the survey was to examine nurses’ experiences from using various patient information systems and the benefits of the systems in nursing work.
The survey sought to answer the following questions, among others:
- How much does the usability of information systems support the work, and to what extent do information systems increase the meaningfulness and quality of the work?
- What kinds of data management skills do nurses have in relation to the use of information systems?
- What factors are related to nurses’ data management skills?
So far, very few studies have been conducted in Finland or globally on nurses’ experiences of patient information systems. The survey explored the experiences of both system-level problems and problems with the structure of medical records, such as problems with usability, interoperability, the inability of information systems to support tasks and the lack of training. Using medical record systems requires a lot of effort and work time. The user-friendliness and functional solutions of information systems facilitates nurses’ work, supporting medical record management and increasing the efficiency and quality of the work.
Fastroi Real-Time Care™ the most user-friendly system in the private sector and social welfare services
According to the survey, Fastroi Real-Time Care™ is the most user-friendly patient information system used in the private sector and social welfare services. The survey concluded that information systems increase the meaningfulness, quality and impact of the work.
At Fastroi, software development has always been user-driven and the software has been developed in cooperation with nurses for many years. We also carry out an extensive customer satisfaction survey every year and develop the system based on the improvement proposals so that we can meet customer wishes. This work was also reflected in the survey results, as Fastroi Real-Time Care™ was ranked no. 1 in several categories, including the usability of the software and the ease of deployment. On a scale of 4 to 10, Fastroi Real-Time Care™ was given a score of 7.4 in social welfare services and 7.2 in the private sector. There is still room for improvement, and Fastroi Real-Time Care™ can achieve excellent scores by continuing to work closely with users of the software.
The survey showed that in terms of cooperation between nurses and usefulness, Fastroi Real-Time Care™ is the best software in the private sector. The availability of patient information and electronic prescriptions as well as structured nursing entries irrespective of location was been found to be important and useful. Of those working in the private sector, 78 per cent feel that they have received sufficient training in the changes to working methods brought about by the Fastroi Real-Time Care™ system. Fastroi Real-Time Care™ and Pegasus users working in social welfare units reported the smallest number of serious adverse events.
Improvement proposals for the new Fastroi Real-Time Care™
The survey brought out improvement proposals that we can utilise in the development of the new Fastroi Real-Time Care™ software, the collection of feedback and the planning of the system training. One of the key problems identified was the need to record the same information in many places. According to nurses working in the private sector, the functions of patient information systems could be accelerated and the making of nursing summaries and related illogicalities could be clarified. Those working in social welfare services found it difficult to make nursing summaries and search for information about a patient who had been treated in another organisation.
Our themes for developing a new system are speed, reducing the number of clicks and supporting nursing with the software. We are aware that the most important thing for health care professionals is treating and caring for people, and that information systems should always play a subordinate role. We at Fastroi aim to make this work easier by providing an agile and user-friendly CRM and ERP system that helps all users in their daily work.
In the future, we also aim to improve data collection within the system by, for example, making it possible to submit product development feedback directly from the system. This will also enable us to obtain valuable information about which areas of the software need improvement and which areas work best. It is clear, however, that drawing on surveys like this and user feedback, we can develop the best possible CRM system for the needs of customers in the care sector.
